Architectural art work commissioned by the Council of the city of Nederlek and the Province of South-Holland. Location: near the recreation-area ‘het Loetbos’/ provincialeweg N210. Height: 2,30 m., diameter of the island 11 m. 2003.
The starting-point for the art is the history of this polder: the eternal struggle with water, the soft bog-soil and the subsidence of houses and roads. The art work consists of two buildings and is constructed out of old-fashioned hand-formed bricks. One of the buildings is perpendicular, the other is crooked and leans over. The most important space is between the two buildings. This space is secluded and intimate. Two seats are build into the walls. On the seat in the perpendicular building you can only sit in a straight position. In the crooked one you are leaning backwards.
The buildings are situated somewhat high, as on a mound and are surrounded by a ditch. This ditch is connected to the ditches behind, so that the art work gives a direct connection with the surrounding landscape. The island and the entrance are covered by gravel, a reference to the age-old farmers’ custom of using gravel to pave the farm yard. The buildings are giving a secluded place in the open polder-landscape.

Uitgangspunt bij het kunstwerk is de geschiedenis van deze polder: de eeuwige strijd met het vele water, de zachte veengrond en het verzakken van huizen en wegen. Het kunstwerk bestaat uit twee bouwwerken en is gemetseld met een ouderwetse handgevormde baksteen. Het ene bouwwerk staat loodrecht en de ander is scheef gezakt. De belangrijkste ruimte bevindt zich tussen de twee bouwwerken in. Deze ruimte is besloten en intiem. In de muren zitten ingemetselde bankjes. Op het bankje in het rechte bouwwerk kun je niet anders dan kaarsrecht zitten. In het achterover hellende verzakte bouwwerk zak je aangenaam mee naar achter.
De bouwwerken staan iets verhoogd zoals op een terp en worden omringd door een sloot. De sloot sluit aan op de achterliggende sloten waardoor het kunstwerk een directe verbinding aan gaat met het omringende landschap. Op het eiland en het toegangspad ligt een grindverharding, dit verwijst naar het oude gebruik van de boeren om het erf met grind te verharden. De bouwwerken vormen een besloten plek midden in de open polder.
